Dear Middle School Families,
The TBS middle school is on the move. In addition to the new teachers introduced in
the last posting, every room upstairs is being transformed, and several are
being repurposed. Here’s the scoop:
The Main Room has a new wall, separating off the locker
area. The Main Room will become the new
Wildcat and house Norman and Stephanie’s 6th grade.
The Amphitheater, while remaining the Humanities home, has
had the greatest transformation: out with the risers and in with a huge window!
…and of course, tables and chairs from the main room.
The old Wildcat is returning to its roots as a Science Lab,
with the ell-shaped entry way partitioned off as a nesting spot for MaryBeth
and me. The lab tables from the Sun Room
will find their way back to the Science Lab.
The Eco-Lab, with new paint and window shades, will serve as
the Math Room.
The Sun Room remains home to the Spanish classes. With a new coat of paint, the white board
removed from the east window, and the door to the Amphitheater removed, it is a
brighter and better focused environment.
Removing the risers created the need for a classroom set of
furniture. If you’ve followed the
dominos above, you’ll notice that the need is in the Sun Room. I got a lead on wooden tables and chairs from
the cafeteria at Georges Lucas’s Industrial Light and Magic in the
Presidio. Imagine the creative backsides
that have polished those hardwood seats!
If you are confused by the room names…you are not
alone. Over the years the only name to
stick has been the Sun Room. We’ll be
calling on students to help us rename the other 7th and 8th
grade rooms, assuming that the 6th will remain Wildcat.
This massive rearrangement has created an opportunity to
look closely at all of the available curriculum and materials, encouraging
teachers to rethink their approaches and discover new possibilities. Physically exhausting, the move has also been
quite energizing.
Welcome to the new
TBS Middle School!
Gretchen
